After recently releasing new music, specifically his latest single ‘Somethin’ More,’ Cisco Adler is ready to kick off the summer with new tunes and visuals for his fans. The Grammy nominated artist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist has announced the release date for his upcoming album, Hippieland, and will begin his spring tour on April 27th.
Adler is embarking on a new chapter as an artist and luckily allowing fans to come along for the journey. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, the ‘Somethin’ More’ singer opened up about new music, his upcoming album and more.
You recently released your latest single ‘Somethin’ More’ with backup vocals from Mike Posner and Cody Simpson. What can you tell us about that track and its overall message?
The message is about being happy with what you have and also being happy with the fact that we all want something more, you know what I mean? We’re all human. At the same time, try to count your blessings and count your goals. I’m trying to put positive vibes into the world. I think we have enough negativity.
You also released a music video for that single! What was that process like?
I love putting visuals to music. I feel like a lot of times it helps people contextualize that message or that experience. It’s always fun to figure out what to do [for a music video]. My purpose now is to simplify and get to my truth and what makes me tick. I sort of frolic and let the nature tell the story and the colors pop in it. I feel like I always try to think of life in colors. This collection of music is the right colors.

Would you consider that a clue for your album, Hippieland, you are planning to release soon?
For the listeners, it’s kind of sectioned off and thought of as a box or an album. For me, it’s a body of work that I [can] look back on and it’s always about finding that sound that explains my mission sonically. [Albums] are mile markers on the highway of life.
How do you think you have an evolved as an artist in the past few years?
I reached a point where I’m feeling comfortable in my skin and as an artist. The first couple of solo projects were [more like] finding myself and there’s something magical to that…especially because it was an exploration of all of the genres I’ve touched [so far]. This album I feel like I am at once genreless only because I’m every genre if that makes sense. I just like feel like this sound feels comfortable and cozy. I’m not anxious about it. I’m more excited to share it rather than anxious about if people will accept it.
What artists or bands right now are you listening to and feel like are comfortable with their sound as well?
That’s a very interesting question. I like how Jack Johnson just does what he does and doesn’t care what anyone else is doing. He always sounds like Jack Johnson. I feel like that with Tom Petty back in the day too. I think as of acts right now, I really dig Wallows and The Marcus King Band. I’m exposed to new things every day that just blow me away. There’s so much good music [right now]. I feel like we came out of a time where there was no good music [and] it was just really hard to find, but it was always there. Now people have the tools and the music in their hands. There’s a lot of great music out there right now. Everyone is not listening to the same stuff.
If you could have a catchphrase or slogan for Hippieland, what would it would be?
“Welcome to Hippieland. Everyone’s invited!” I’ve lived in Hippieland my whole life.
Thank you, Cisco Adler, for taking the time to speak with CelebMix about everything coming up right now.
