We live in a world of glorious mash-ups. The cronut and turducken spring to mind. The fact that someone once declared, “What if we took a chicken, and stuck it in a duck, and then stuck them both in a turkey?” gives me an odd sense of hope for humanity. There are non-culinary examples as well. A particularly satisfying sporting mash-up exists at the Polynesian Village Resort in Walt Disney World: FootGolf.
1. Foot What???
FootGolf! It’s like golf, but you play it with your feet. Instead of a golf ball, you kick a soccer ball and instead of a tiny hole, the gaping holes in FootGolf are 21 inches in diameter. The rest of the rules are fundamentally the same as those in regular golf. Your goal is to get to the hole in as few kicks as possible.
2. Where Is It Located?
The course is in the Disney Oaks Trail course operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management at the Polynesian Village Resort. The course also serves as a traditional golf course and the two games can be played side by side. Blue pin flags mark the traditional golf holes, and orange mark the FootGolf holes.
3. How Much Does It Cost?
Footgolf costs $25 for Day Guests, $19 for Resort Guests, and $15 for Juniors (under 18 years of age). Disney Vacation Club members can receive a $5 discount. Reservations are required ninety days in advance and can be booked by calling (407) WDW-GOLF. FootGolf is available to play on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday after 2:30 p.m.
4. How Long Does It Takes to Play?
The course has nine holes and takes approximately one hour and thirty minutes to play.
5. What Do I Wear?
According to the Walt Disney World Golf web page, “the basic uniform of FootGolf is golf apparel, with indoor or turf soccer shoes, or running shoes. Knee length Argyle socks are customary, but not necessary, as is the use of a Flat Cap. A sturdy walking or athletic shoe is recommended to protect your feet from injury.”
